12 Treats of Christmas: Orange Creamsicle on 34th Street (Christmas Citrus Martini)

Orange Creamsicle Martini

Remember the film Miracle on 34th Street? It’s about a department store Santa claiming to be the real Santa Claus.  It’s a family favorite, and it served as the inspiration for this cocktail.

Growing up in Florida I remember making fresh squeezed orange juice from the oranges we picked from trees in our own backyard. Ripe orange season began around Christmas time. As a result, I became a bit of an orange juice snob rejecting any juice that  wasn’t fresh-squeezed from our trees.

I wanted to make a special drink for Christmas that was part Florida and part nostalgia.  I came up with the Orange Creamsicle on 34th Street.  It’s a little sweet, a bit whimsical, and like the film to which it pays homage, it is sure to be a holiday classic. Please enjoy this special Christmas citrus martini as part of our 12 Treats of Christmas.

Orange Creamsicle Martini

Ingredients:

Martini:
(Makes approximately two drinks)
3 ounces whipped cream vodka
6 ounces orange juice
1 1/2 ounces triple sec

Garnish:
orange wheel or slice

Directions:
Measure out the vodka, orange juice and triple sec and pour into your martini shaker with some ice.

Shake and strain into martini glass and top with an orange slice.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas from sunny Florida!

In creating this drink and testing out several different recipes, I’ve become a big fan of the whipped cream vodka. I found that an alternate to this martini is a simple cordial. Simply pour whipped cream vodka into a cordial or shot glass and top it off with a splash of orange juice or orange soda. It’s delicious either way!
