Pretty Awesome Weekends: Beach Edition

Since summer is coming to an end … sigh … I thought this week in Pretty Awesome Weekends I’d share a special beach-themed edition.

I know, you’re thinking “beach season is over, why waste the time?”  But, it’s not.  At least not in my Florida anyways.  The water may start to cool off in a month or two, but I happen to LOVE visiting Florida beaches in the Fall.  The lovely tourists are fewer, the sun is a bit less powerful (good for the fair skinned in the group like me), and you can spend more time there without sweating buckets.  Yes, buckets … I’ve measured …

So, alas, during this last weekend of summer, sit back, relax and surf around the web while imagining you are at the beach (if you are though, GO GO … enjoy – just come back later and read)!

Visit Florida – Yeah, I am a marketing person by day so you may be suspect of this link.  But the Visit Florida Web site is the first place to go when you want to explore for new places to visit in Florida.  Pre-baby, Mr. Man (my husband) and I traveled through Florida all the time. And I always started here to find a new place to go.

Dr. Beach – Dr. Beach issues this list called the Best Beaches in America.  And you know, he’s pretty spot on most of the time.  So check it out and plan your next ocean-side vacation.

Poolside Cocktails – Heading to the pool this weekend? Check-out this Food 52 contest for the Best Poolside Cocktail and you’ll find a great array of ideas to quench your thirst. Make sure to try the Live Pretty entry – Katherine’s Famous Grapefruit Martini.

Beach Reading – Just because Fall is right around the corner does not mean you can’t still indulge in some of the best summer reading.

Curmudgeon Reading – If you are ready for summer to be over, check out what P.J. O’Rourke has to say in in the Wall Street Journal this weekend in his Case Against Summer.

Story Corps – Something about family stories always reminds me of vacations and summer family time.  And Story Corp is the best source out there for great family tales. So click around the stories that this nationwide mission has collected and sit back, listen and enjoy.

Happy Summer!
