Bridal Shower – What’s a Dad to do?

Bridal Shower:  Advantage Dad.

Yes, there was a Bridal Shower for a close family friend.  And yes, I was not going.  Better yet, I had the opportunity to hang out with my little ones while mommy was away enjoying the shower.  But, what to do?

Of course we loaded up with cinnamon rolls (a breakfast treat favorite), ice cream, cookies and movies.  It was fun.  But it also gave us some bonding time – and the opportunity to tell the little ones about how mommy and daddy met each other – and fell in love. A perfect 360 as to why mommy was away celebrating the beginning of another couple’s life together.

They were so intrigued about how we met. What we looked like then. What we were wearing.  How I knew that Mommy was my princess. Some pretty powerful questions created wonderful conversations.  They giggled, they paused and asked more questions.  I got lost in time.  It was rewarding for me not to only spend time with the little ones, but remember the story of Us, that brought the little ones into our lives.

So, yes, we did indulge.  We had food we never do. We explored. But, most importantly, we spent time together – and related it as to why mommy was at the Bridal Shower.  Our movie of choice was Parent Trap – appropriate for the situation I believe.

Congrats to the couple who are sharing their lives.  As I can promise, some pretty powerful things come from such a great union of souls.  Gifts you never imagine you would receive.  Love you never thought you deserved.

Truly,

A very grateful Dad
