Why Not Ask: You’re Already at No.
You’ve Got Nothing to Lose. Go Ahead and Ask.
I learned it in sales. My sales director told me to go ahead and ask for the deal. What have I got to lose? I’m already at no. It made so much sense.
Quite often, we don’t ask because we assume we know the answer. Well, if that’s the case, you’ve got nothing to lose. However, you just might be surprised. You’re already at no, so if the answer is ‘no,’ then you’ve lost nothing. On the other hand, ‘yes’ is a welcomed gift.
So, if you’re trying to build your business and need that project to take you to the next level, or want that introductory meeting – go for it. Ask for it. It just might lead you down a journey now filled with a bit more confidence than you had ‘before the ask.’ If I know it’s reasonable, I’m always going to ask. I’ve got nothing to lose. And, at least I know I tried. But, I’ll tell you this – My unexpected asks have resulted in more than one ‘yes.’
