Operation 25.5: The Right Kind of Reward

Rewarding advice for dieting.

Lately on my journey to loose weight and get in shape I have learned one big thing – rewarding yourself for loosing weight by eating indulgent food is absolutely counter productive. (Unless you like the insanity of doing the same thing over and over again).

Sounds like a simple conclusion to make, but for me – a lover of food – it was one I avoided making for many weeks now.  So, at the suggestion of my trainer, I am now focusing on rewarding myself with different types of indulgences – a massage, a pedicure or buying something totally indulgent; meaning something I WANT – not something I NEED.

This was the case last weekend at my daughter’s school fundraiser.  While strolling through the silent auction items, something that usually involves me strolling “past” to avoid indulgent purchases, I spotted this:

Yes, an over-the-top, bright and somewhat obnoxious Lilly Pultizer beach bag.  I knew immediately – I HAD TO HAVE IT!  Not only is is pink – bright, bright pink – it has huge flowers all over it and shinny gold edging.  It also wipes off!!  Ohhh … every self-respecting Florida mom has to have an over-the-top, wipeable, bright and huge summer bag for the family!  Well, don’t we?

After showing the bag to Mr. Man, he let me go for it as long as I promised never to ask him to hold it … then following a silent bidding war, I WON!  (Well, picked it up for half cost while helping the school’s scholarship fund).

And what a reward it is – not only for the school, but for me: the mama rewarding herself for 15 lbs lost, a key milestone along my journey in Operation 25.5.

So, if you’re strolling beaches of the best beach ever later this summer and spot this awesome bag on the shoulder of a mama chasing a crazy 2-year-old, say hi!

And, any ideas what I should do for my next reward?  I’m taking suggestions as I look toward my next milestone of 20 lbs!

    Things I like to reward myself with:

    Expensive bedding, new pillow, new memory foam mattress pad (a better nights rest is a fantastic reward)
    designer make-up
    sexy pumps (that I never wear)
    weekend trips to nice hotels or bed-and-breakfast inns
    new Curling irons/ straighters
    Art, or art supplies (I just having pretty things to look at)
    and today, I bought a Beta Fish, because I haven’t had a pet in a long time.

    Congrats on the weight loss!!! you are an excellent example.
