Your Personal Board of Directors

Learn From Those You Admire.

You all are familiar with a corporate Board of Directors.  Defined as a body of elected or appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of a company or organization. Imagine yourself as a corporation.  Who would you elect as your board of directors? Who would you select to run your corporation?   Who’s expertise would you rely on?

It’s actually a very interesting exercise. List those who would be on your Board.  It can be anyone.  Business Leaders, celebrities, friends, strangers.  The goal is to assemble a board made up of people with qualities and strengths you admire.  Imagine them at a board meeting, using their strengths to advise you. In times of trouble you would ask yourself how ‘the board’ would handle it. In times of smooth sailing, you think what they would do next. How do I ‘up’ my game.

I chose a friend I admire for their sense of entrepreneurship and acceptance of risk.  A few celebrity/business types for their never-ending energy and inspiration.  Family members and a past friend with infectious sense of calm.  My wife for her patience and sense of adventure. All qualities I admire and would like to be a part of me.  Have a board meeting.  I know it may sound a bit out there, but it’s quite interesting.

Think about it as you work to Live. Work smart. Live Smarter.
