The Ever-Changing Valentine
Memories of Valentine’s Day
From first memory, you create cute little cards you place in your classmates’ decorated shoe boxes. Then, the pressure of having a teen Valentine. Once that’s over, you submit your membership to the rebellious Lonely Hearts Club in your early professional career (too busy to focus on love). Then, you discontinue your membership to the Lonely Hearts Club because you found THE one and you’re focusing on the perfect Valentine’s date. I still remember my Valentine’s date with one lady in particular. Incredible dinner and evening. That lady and I decided to spend a few more Valentine’s Days together as we celebrated our love with wonderful dinners and quick getaways to Southern California’s many offerings.
Well, that too changed. As I write this, our little Valentines are putting on a ballet show in the living room, as my original one-and-only Valentine catches up on some well-deserved sleep. The Valentine’s Day getaways have slowed, and the dinners not so romantic. But, that’s okay. It’s ever-changing.
This year, we celebrate our day together in a new home and new city. And, it will be the four of us. We’ll make a special dinner and not focus on the history of St. Valentine; rather we will show the history of mommy and daddy being each others Valentine. They love seeing pictures of our adventures and life together. What a great lesson for them – the importance of love, friendship and commitment.
How lucky am I? An ever-changing Valentine’s Day – with 3 Valentines.
